Location:                            London or Berlin + Hybrid

Pangea Botanica brings the platform business model of company building to nature-inspired drug discovery and development", with a higher likelihood of success and reduced timeline in developing new medicines for patients. We optimize our success rate and development time by focusing on nature-inspired compounds with prior evidence of safety and efficacy

  • Founded in 2021, our decentralized platform already comprises four drug development operating companies targeting auto-immune, psychiatric, neurodegenerative and neurological indications, complemented by our proprietary PangeAITM discovery engine
  • Our team has a track record of building companies around natural products and biotech platforms, at COMPASS Pathways (Nasdaq: CMPS); GW Pharmaceuticals (acquired by Jazz Pharmaceuticals); and atai Life Sciences (Nasdaq: ATAI)

We are currently building PangeAI, where we harness the power of  data and AI to  empower the scalable translation of nature’s metabolome into medicines. Our advanced AI-driven Natural Product discovery platform will assemble one of the world's largest datasets of natural products, and develop advanced AI in order to uncover novel compounds with possible therapeutic value at scale.

We are looking for a Cloud Data Engineer, who will be setting up a robust & versatile data platform on the AWS cloud platform, capable of scaling with the exponentially growing volume of data we will integrate overtime.

Roles and responsibilities

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Design, develop & implement data processing workflows, ETL pipelines and storage infrastructure on AWS
  • Collaborate with the PangeAI team to implement data processing workflow using Big Data technologies such as Spark/Hadoop & design the database and data lake architecture
  • Coordinate data processing workflow development and deployment
  • Work with ML engineers to ensure continuous deployment of ML models on the PangeAI platform
  • Ongoing communication and presentation of results to diverse audiences, including project teams, R&D & portfolio companies, collaborators, etc
  • Use programming best practices, documentation, and design principles
  • Remain informed and up-to-date on new advancements in cloud technologies and assess them for potential integration



What is essential:

  • MSc in Computer science, Data Science or equivalent practical experience
  • Some years of work experience (post-graduation) with AWS in an industry-like environment
  • Strong experience in Python and an object oriented programming language like Java
  • Proficient in linux, bash, version control (git) and CI/CD
  • Experience with ETL, Data Modeling, Data Architecture and building data pipelines on AWS
  • Strong oral & written communication skills in English

What we also like in applicants:

  • Experience in optimizing ETL pipelines & tuning big data processes using Apache Spark or similar technologies
  • Strong skills in writing and optimizing SQL and using Big Data technologies such as Spark/Hadoop
  • Experience with Graph Databases and graph algorithms
  • Exposure to Knowledge Graphs and Semantic Web Technology Stack (RDF/SPARQL/OWL)
  • Practical experience in ML model training and deployment
  • Experience working with life science / biomedical data
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills;
  • Entrepreneurial mindset; a self-starter and self-driven person who is able to prioritize work activity and manage conflicting priorities in a fast paced, ever changing environment
